Maklumat tentang peranan tanah untuk menyokong semua ekosistem tanah termasuk populasi mikroorganisma yang mengitar semula bahan-bahan hidup, membekalkan seluruh populasi manusia dengan makanan, serat, air dan bahan binaan, dan tapak untuk pembinaan dan pelupusan sisa serta peranan tanah dalam kitaran karbon dan pencegahan pemanasan global akan turut dibincangkan.

To expose the students to the basic principles of soil management methods and functions of soil in the ecosystem. Information about the role of soil in supporting all soil ecosystems including populations of microorganisms that recycle nutrients, supplying the entire human population with food, fiber, water and building materials, and the site for the construction and waste disposal and the role of soil in carbon cycle and global warming prevention will also be discussed.
