Course info
This course introduces students to the ethnography of the various indigenous groups in the Malay Archipelago based on language/culture, social system, beliefs and other forms of classification. The emphasis will be on the social identity of these indigenous groups in facing the impact of changes and development. Furthermore, it will focus on their ability to form social organizations and boundaries which are appropriate with the multi-racial political penetration as well as environmental and resource exploitation.
